My husband and I used to get ready for battle every Friday night: We found that weekends with a baby and a very active three-(and even four-) year-old so tiring and so draining that we'd have to psych ourselves up each Friday evening for 48-hours of non-stop exhaustion and then celebrate when the weekend was over.
Over the past year or so, Saturdays and Sundays would be filled by trying to alternately do chores -- have you also shovelled 3 feet of snow off the driveway while simultaneously watching two little ones? -- and entertain the masses at the same time. During weekend afternoons, Jay might take Kash out geocaching (wow! how's that for alliteration?!) while I'd stay home, wash dishes, do laundry and surf the 'net while Baby Lily napped. Or, I'd run out to buy groceries and Jay would dance, juggle and stave off any kid battles.
On Sunday nights, we'd often count down the minutes until the kids went to bed so we could finally rest, watch TV, work on our laptops and breathe. And, on Mondays our nanny comes over (oh glorious day!) to care for our kids during the week and Kash goes to public school in the afternoons.
But, you know what? Suddenly, weekends aren't so hard. In fact, this last one (recond high temps and all) was actually...fun! On Saturday, we attended a local Fun Fair where volunteers at a nearby school put on a great day of activities, games, bouncy castles, pony rides, hotdog & drink sales, etc. to raise money for the school. Sure, it was hot but the kids were well-behaved and we had a good time playing in the park, meeting neighbours and winning prizes.
On Sunday, we didn't do much of anything and it was still enjoyable. We played in the backyard, planted flowers in the garden, and took Lily (along with Kash) to her first-ever big-screen movie: Kung Fu Panda. (Incidentally, she wasn't a fan of the film -- it was too long and too dark for her). But, even with a wee bit o' whining and two tired, hot kids (and adults), we still managed to have a great day. I was shocked when nightfall arrived and I actually didn't want to put the kids to bed because I'd miss them. Oh, happy day! The weekend warriors can take off their armor.

That Geocaching sounds really interesting.
